Order of the Red Banner of Labor Military Publishing House of the USSR Ministry of Defense is one of the oldest and largest state publishing houses in the USSR.

Foundation and Early Years

On October 25, 1919, by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic, the Literary and Publishing Department was established in Moscow as part of the Political Directorate (PUR) of the Revolutionary Military Council, marking the beginning of the history of the Military Publishing House.

Transformation into Voengiz

In 1924, Litizdat PUR was transformed into the State Military Publishing House (VOENGIZ), which was part of OGIZ.

Renaming and Further Activities

In 1936, Voengiz came under the jurisdiction of the military department of the USSR. The publishing house was renamed the Military Publishing House of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR and operated under this name until 1946.

Awards and Achievements

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on February 22, 1968, for its fruitful work in publishing military, political, and artistic literature in the USSR and in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy, the Military Publishing House was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

Various book series were published: "Military Memoirs," "Frontline Stories," and others.

Activities in the 1980s

In the 1980s, within the system of the State Committee for Publishing of the USSR, the publishing house was part of the main editorial office of socio-political literature. The address of the publishing house in 1987 was: 103160, Moscow, Zorge Street, 1.
