Description Vintage Soviet Watch Svet Cal. 2603 16 Jewels Leningrad Electric Clock Factory

Svet (Свет) — Vintage Soviet Mechanical Watch by ECHL (Leningrad Electrical Clock Factory), 1960s–1970s

A rare and collectible Soviet-era men's wristwatch branded “Svet” (Свет), meaning “Light” in Russian. Produced by the legendary Leningrad Electrical Clock Factory (ECHL / ЭЧЛ), later known as Khronotron — a factory with roots dating back to 1877. This watch is a remarkable piece of Soviet horological history from the late 1960s to early 1970s.

Factory Heritage

The ECHL factory traces its origins to 1877, when German engineer Kurt Siegel founded a manufacturing facility in Saint Petersburg. After the 1917 revolution, the factory was nationalized and eventually renamed the Leningrad Electrical Clock Factory (ECHL) in 1946. The factory became famous for producing precision timekeeping systems for Moscow’s iconic skyscrapers, the Kremlin Palace of Congresses, and metro stations across the USSR. In the early 1960s, ECHL began producing mechanical wristwatches using movements and components supplied by the renowned Petrodvorets Watch Factory (Raketa / ПЧЗ). These watches were assembled at the ECHL plant and branded as “Svet”.

Dial

The watch features a stunning black guilloché dial with an intricate sunburst pattern that catches the light beautifully. Gold-toned applied Arabic numerals (12, 2, 4, 8, 10) and baton hour markers create an elegant contrast against the dark background. A small seconds sub-dial is located at the 6 o’clock position. The dial bears the “Svet” (Свет) name in cursive script, the ECHL factory logo within a pentagon, and the “Made in USSR” marking at the bottom. The gold-colored hands complement the indices perfectly, giving the dial a refined vintage appearance with a beautiful aged patina on the numerals.

Case

The classic round case is crafted from brass with chrome plating and features distinctive “crab-style” lugs — a hallmark of Soviet watchmaking from the 1960s–70s era. The stainless steel case back is secured with a threaded ring and features engravings indicating shock-proof balance and splash-proof protection. The gold-toned crown provides two functions: manual winding and time setting.

Movement

Inside beats the reliable caliber 2603 hand-wound mechanical movement, manufactured by the Petrodvorets Watch Factory (Raketa / ПЧЗ). This is a beautifully finished movement with elegant Geneva stripes (Côtes de Genève) on the bridges, giving it a truly refined appearance. The 16-jewel movement features a monometallic screw balance with shock protection, pallet lever escapement, and runs at 18,000 A/h (2.5 Hz) with a lift angle of 42°. The movement diameter is 26mm with a height of 3.9mm. A proven Soviet workhorse known for its durability and accuracy.

Strap

The watch comes on a black faux leather bund (cuff) strap with a silver buckle that not only adds to its vintage military aesthetic but also visually enhances the watch's wrist presence.

Crystal

Fitted with a domed acrylic (plastic) crystal that adds a classic vintage look to the watch.

Condition

This watch has been fully serviced by a professional watchmaker in February 2026. The movement was completely disassembled, cleaned, and washed. The watch is in working condition and ready to wear.

This is a vintage timepiece, over 50 years old. The chrome plating shows signs of age-appropriate wear with minor scratches consistent with its era. The dial retains its deep black color with a beautiful guilloché pattern. Overall, a well-preserved example for its age — a true piece of Soviet watchmaking heritage.

Why Collect This Watch?

The Svet is one of the rarest Soviet watch brands. Unlike the widely known Raketa, Vostok, or Pobeda, the Svet was produced in limited quantities exclusively at the ECHL factory using Raketa-made components. Its striking black guilloché dial, combined with the fascinating history of the Leningrad Electrical Clock Factory, makes this watch a must-have for collectors of Soviet horology and vintage timepieces.
